Vitamin K supplementation has been shown to have a positive impact on bone density and calcium loss. One study demonstrated a reduction in calcium loss by up to 50% in osteoporotic individuals.

Osteocalcin, the most abundant non-collagenous protein in bone, is vitamin K dependent. It is synthesized by osteoblasts during bone matrix formation and incorporated into bone.

Vitamin K is an essential co-factor for gamma-carboxlase enzymes. In the absence of vitamin K, y-carboxylation does not occur. Undercarboxylation of osteocalcin adversely affects its capacity to bind to bone mineral. In other words, it negatively impacts bone calcification.

Each drop of Bio-K-Mulsion supplies 500 mcg of vitamin K, micro-emulsified for greated bioavaiability. This is particularly important for those with malabsorbtion syndromes, as they tend to be Vitamin K deficient.

Research and additional information: Vitamin K supplementation is generally contraindicated in patients who are taking coumadin/warfarin. Pregnant women should avoid supplementation with vitamin K is doses exceeding 65 mcg unless directed by a doctor.
