Information about this can be found in the article on Weight Loss/Purification.

If you suspect that you might have this problem please read on and make an informed decision about what you can do to get some relief from is problem.

    Q: What is Firbomyalgia?

Fibromyalgia, a mysteriously debilitating syndrome, that is characterized by the constant presence of widespread pain so severe that it is often incapacitating. In the United States, three to six million people may be afflicted with this symptoms. It is estimated that 15 to 20% of patients seen by Rheumatologists have Fibromyalgia. The condition bears a striking resemblance to Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (a garbage pail diagnosis) and mainly affect women aged 25 to 50, however men are not exempt.

For many years the diagnosis of Fibromyalgia was perplexing. Like CFS, patients are plagued with symptoms like:

    • Chronic Muscle Pain
    • Aching
    • Stiffness
    • Depression
    • Disturbed sleep
    • Fatigue

Finally, research revealed a consistent finding on physical examinations. There are 18 specific points in muscles, tendons or bones that are tender and painful to touch, they are as follows:

  • Low Cervical: bilateral, at C5-C7
  • Second rib: bilateral, at the anterior insertion
  • Bilateral greater trochanter: The upper part of the thighbone.
  • In the middle of the knee joint at the fat pat (inside portion)
  • Bilateral at the base of the Occiput (skull)
  • Bilateral on the back in the muscles of the upper back and shoulders
  • Bilateral muscles of the mid back and the side of the elbow
  • Gluteal: bilateral, upper outer part of buttocks in the front fold of the muscle.
  • All the above are bilaterally positioned with the criteria for diagnosing fibromylgia being pain or tenderness experienced in ll of the 18 points.

The cause of Fibromyalgia , as scientists who conducted several studies concluded, that victims of the syndrome appeared to have reduced circulation to their muscle cells, and damage to the cell energy producing mechanism (the mitochondria). This strongly suggests an energy deficient state in the muscle tissue. They hypothesized that any condition that reduced circulation enough to prevent adequate oxygen from getting to the muscle cells might result in Fibromyalgia. It is also known that with Fibromyalgia the body breaks down muscle protein at an unusually high rate and converts it to glucose for energy. This increased level of muscle tissue breakdown has been interpreted as one of the main reasons for the pain, aching and fatigue.

Conventional treatments fall short despite long years of research, there is still no ideal conventional medical treatment for Fibromyalgia. Some antidepressant drugs have been known to provide some short-term relief, and other studies have tested the effects of ibuprofen and found them not to be any more beneficial than a placebo. Of the variety of conventional treatments tested on Fibromyalgia patients, all have yielded poor to moderate results.

New research indicates that Fibromyalgia may be associated with certain deficiencies that can be managed naturally through nutrition. For the body to manufacture energy, it requires the presence of certain compounds, including oxygen, magnesium, substrate (a fuel for energy), ADP and phosphate. A shortage of any of these means the body cannot efficiently manufacture and store ATP (energy storage molecules), causing the experience of fatigue, depression and muscle pain. Patients with Fibromyalgia tend to be deficient in magnesium, which is one of the most crucial nutrients needed for the production of ATP.

Aluminum toxicity may also play a role in Fibromyalgia as well. Scientists have found that aluminum toxicity can be prevented by providing the body with adequate amounts of magnesium, which actually blocks the toxic effects of aluminum. Another naturally occurring compound known as malic acid is a most potent aluminum detoxifier and is very effective in ridding the brain tissue of aluminum. Patients with Fibromyalgia that are given combined preparations of magnesium and malic acid showed pain relief within 48 hours and within 4 to 8 weeks all patients had significant decrease in the pain and tenderness of the 18 diagnostic points indicated above.

In addition to nutritional support, mild exercise can help alleviate some of the symptoms of Fibromyalgia as well. An article printed in the American Journal of Medicine states that fitness training in patients with Fibromyalgia improves subjective complaints of pain. Also regular Chiropractic care, massage, heat treatments and rest can decrease sensitivity at the tender points and improve endurance, energy and mobility.

    Some Predisposing Factors:

    • Food allergy/sensitivity.
    • Carbohydrate sensitivity.
    • Physiological lithium (naturally occurring enzyme) deficiency.
    • Magnesium or potassium deficiency.
    • Thiamine deficiency resulting in lactic or pyruvic acidosis
    • Over-exertion of poorly toned muscles.
    • Excess use of hydrogenated and partially hydrogenated fats and oils, processed foods, caffeine containing foods, refined carbohydrates and/or alcohol.

    General Recommendations:

    • Provide thorough nourishment to your muscles, tendons and bones with the proper nutritional supplementation.
    • Increase the amount of whole, fresh foods you eat.
    • Engage in some type of regular aerobic exercise.
    • Enjoy massage and/or heat treatments.
    • Get plenty of rest.

I have been using a specific detox program for 3 years now and all of my Fibromyalgia patients that have done this program unanimously said that within 3 weeks their pain was gone and their energy levels were back to where they were before they became ill.
