Hepatitis

The clinical manifestations of acute infections with the hepatitis viruses are indistinguishable irrespective of the diversity of the different types (A, B, C etc.). Often, especially with children, the acute hepatitis is silent. Jaundice does not develop in most patients and the illness is often thought to be a nonspecific virus without liver/serologic assays administered for the hepatitis.

After an incubation period, symptoms of the acute phase may develop. These generally include; but, are not limited to:

    • fatigue
    • anorexia
    • nausea
    • vomiting
    • low-grade fever
    • gastric discomfort

The above symptoms generally last from one to two weeks and coincide with peak increases in the liver enzymes. After about six to eight weeks however, most patients recover fully without residual hepatic (liver) damage or impairment.

Of the six hepatitis viruses, four can cause chronic infection. The probability that the infection will become chronic is as follows:

    • Hepatitis A-Not known to cause chronic virus.
    • Hepatitis B-Between 1 and 90% depending upon the patient’s age and
      immune status.
    • Hepatitis C-Over 90% develop chronic hepatitis.
    • Hepatitis D-Can develop into chronic hepatitis, but rarely.
    • Hepatitis E-Can develop into chronic hepatitis, but rarely. Can cause
fulminant (severe/sudden onset) hepatitis in pregnancy (10-20%).
    • Hepatitis G-Can develop into chronic hepatitis; but, rarely.

Dietary management of hepatitis is a must here, eliminate all hydrogenated and partially hydrogenated fats and oils, refined carbohydrates, fast-acting sugars (fruit juice), alcohol, caffeine (chocolate, cola, coffee, black tea), fried foods and limit gluten containing grains and dairy products. Increase raw foods, quality proteins and raw/ unrefined oils (live flax seed oil). Increase pure water intake to at least 8 full glasses per day.

Although medical texts indicate that exercise does not interfere with convalescence, it has been our experience that reduced physical activity will result in the patient feeling better with a faster recovery.

The programs for treatment are extensive and expensive; however, neither acute or chronic hepatitis lend themselves to conservative supplemental support. The results with our protocol have been excellent. Our patients experience an excellent since of well being without side effects while the liver enzymes exhibit a continual decline and usually remain below 30 with maintenance support.

    Other Considerations With Chronic Hepatitis:

    • The lifetime risk of liver/biliary cirrhosis with HBV is around 40%.
    • The lifetime risk with HCV is around 20%.
    • Risk for developing hepatic/biliary cancer is significantly higher in patients
      with chronic HBV and HCV.
    • Autoimmune thyroiditis is a common complication of chronic hepatitis.

In addition we would like to state here that the medical management of acute and chronic hepatitis is aggressive, costly and the side effects are diarrhea, baldness, complete fatigue, anorexia, vomiting depression, with delirium, and in some cases contemplation of suicide in about 5% of the patients. The final outcome for medical treatment is a liver transplant for chronic, life-threatening, hepatitis B or C. If the patient chooses the allopathic approach it is not if a liver transplant will happen but when will it happen. This might sound like a harsh indictment, however, these are the statistical facts which are documented by the medical community.

We have seen cases where people that were on liver transplant lists were taken off shortly after starting the recommended program used at this clinic. You can read about one of our cases on our testimonial page.
